Johnny Ballen, owner of two previous Squeaky Bean locations—one of which was built by Jordy Construction, contacted us to look at an old Star Express gas station at Old Hampden Avenue and Downing Street as the location for a new taco concept of his. We proceeded to provide a complete inspection report on the property that included budgetary pricing for the various systems that needed to be upgraded or replaced. This due diligence and the great experience we had building out Squeaky Bean downtown won us the job.

We helped Johnny select an architect for the gas station to funky street taco restaurant conversion and went to work. The restoration of the building and conversion to a restaurant required upgrading the water and gas service, replacing the roof, adding building insulation, filling the old garage bay sand oil separator, and completely gutting and starting from scratch on the interior of the space. We worked closely with Johnny’s interior designer who also provided many of the eclectic and repurposed finish elements inside the space. The final product was a glowing testament to the collaboration of the entire project team and allowed the old building to provide new life in a neighborhood that was badly in need of some fresh food options and a fun place to enjoy them!
